Background

At present, 1,600 Indonesian students are pursuing their degrees in Japan, particularly at the university level. In comparison to other Southeast Asian countries, it represents the highest number and this trend remains to be seen in the future.

This significance number of students implies an essential effort to develop activities and forums in which research and other academic activities can be promoted. Discussion forums and exchanging views among Indonesian students and scholars from various disciplines are expected to contribute to the development of solid academic and scientific network, which further brings positive impacts on Indonesian development.
Indonesian Students Association in Japan (PPI Jepang) is the biggest forum covering various activities of Indonesian students throughout Japan. This organization has continued to realize its contribution to the multidimensional transformation Indonesia is undergoing. One of the manifestation of our contribution is by establishing an annual forum of scientific meeting (Temu Ilmiah). In this forum, we invite all Indonesian students to participate by presenting the link between their research and  real problems our country has been dealing with. This forum is also expected to be a medium for disseminating research outputs as part of the broader goals of strengthening the foundation towards sustainable development in Indonesia.

Objectives

  • To develop and to strengthen scientific-based network among Indonesian students in Japan
  • To enhance research capacity and quality on the basis of international competitiveness
  • To develop constructive discussions to foster cooperation and synergy among students and scholars
  • To establish a forum for research dissemination

 

 

Target Participants

The Scientific Meeting invites all students and scholars in Japan as well as representatives of Indonesian organizations based in Japan with an estimated number of 200 participants.

  • Official publications of presented research
  • Special Edition of “Inovasi Online” Magazine 2010 on Scientific Meeting
  • The establishment of online database consisting of research outputs and academic papers by Indonesian students in Japan
